On March 5, we hosted the External Stakeholder Consultation for the Samoa Agriculture Survey (SAS) 2025 at Taumeasina Island Resort. This important session brought together key partners from Government ministries, the Private sector, Development Organisations, and NGOs to review the survey questionnaire and ensure it aligns with national priorities.
The Acting Government Statistician delivered the keynote address, highlighting the vital role of high-quality agricultural statistics in monitoring sector performance and informing decision-making. The Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS), with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) colleagues, guided stakeholders through the survey objectives and key aspects of the questionnaire.
SAS2025 is part of the planned data collection cycle under the Samoa Strategy for the Development of Statistics (SSS) 2022–2026 and aims to:
– Update agricultural data from previous censuses and surveys.
– Support evidence-based policymaking in line with the Agriculture & Fisheries Sector Plan 2022-2027 and the Pathway for the Development of Samoa (PDS) 2021-2026.
– Monitor progress towards regional and global development targets, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We sincerely thank all stakeholders for their valuable contributions. Your insights are crucial in ensuring that SAS 2025 delivers accurate, relevant, and timely data to support sustainable agricultural development in Samoa.
This initiative is made possible through technical and financial support from FAO and Tautai-Governance for Economic Growth.
